About
Holtz Educational Center, LLC is a non-public, therapeutic day school that provides a special education alternative to students while utilizing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

Who We Serve
Holtz serves students Pre-K through 8th grade and plans to expand to high school and post-secondary programs.
The program is designed to serve students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, a developmental delay, students previously diagnosed as having PDD-NOS, intellectual and specific learning disorders & other health impairments. Students enrolled at Holtz Educational Center are referred through the student’s home school district as part of the IEP process.

Assessment
As a school utilizing the principles of ABA, our teaching methods, data collection systems, and evaluation process support the application of behavioral principles to increase or decrease targeted behaviors. Holtz’s educational program identifies each child’s specific areas of need across core diagnostic areas specific to ASD and related disorders including, but not limited to: communication & language, adaptive functioning, relationship development, social/emotional learning, leisure/play, problem behavior reduction, and educational supports for all areas of the core curriculum.

Academics
Holtz Educational Center provides students and families with a comprehensive educational experience that utilizes research-based educational and behavioral programming adapted to meet the needs of each student to foster individual achievement. The program provides comprehensive, ongoing assessments to determine the student’s learning style, strengths, areas of needed instruction, and progress towards goals.

Regardless of a student’s ability, all curricular tools and materials are age appropriate and aligned to grade specific Common Core/Essential Elements & Illinois State standards. Our program utilizes the following resources to ensure that students are exposed to grade level instruction while focusing on their therapeutic and behavioral needs: Unique, PEAK, Handwriting without Tears, Reading A-Z, Science A-Z, Social Thinking, Superflex, Zones of Regulation, Move to Improve, Attainment’s Early Literacy Skill Builders & Smile Structured Methods In Language Education: An Association Method Curriculum.

Accountability
The success of the students is also the success of the teachers. Oversight and accountability of student programs and staff implementation is provided by a highly qualified BCBA to ensure high quality instruction results in meaningful progress.

Therapeutic Support
Speech-language and occupational therapy are available to provide support to students and staff in all classrooms.  Related services are:
  • diagnostic in nature
  • outcome-oriented
  • curriculum-based
  • integrated with educational activities
  • dynamic to fit the student’s changing needs
  • derived from research-based strategies
  • age appropriate
  • designed to promote access to the general education curriculum.
The school utilizes an integrated therapy model of support that provides students with the majority of their instruction with their peers through individualized, small, or large group instruction.

School Hours
School hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with an early dismissal at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesdays. The regular school year consists of a 9-month program and provides 7 weeks of extended school year services (ESY) to children who require those services. As a therapeutic day school, one of our goals is to help transition students back to their home school district.

How long do students stay at Holtz Educational Center?
It is our belief that whenever possible, students should be educated within their own community and have the opportunity to participate in the same educational and social opportunities as their peers. Because of this, our school is modeled to support independence and reintegration, and has a tiered system of support. Students at all levels participate in individual and small group instruction and activities, and begin to develop the skills needed to participate in whole class activities.

Family Involvement
We recognize the important role families have in the lives of our students, and the need for parents to be active participants in their child’s education. As a result, we encourage parents to consult with teachers and observe their child’s progress. Parents receive daily notes from their child’s teacher as well as trimester progress reports, and, upon request and administrative approval, home or community visits each trimester. Parents may participate in parent teacher conferences throughout the year, and are encouraged to attend parent workshops, join parent committees, and volunteer at the school.
